Born in Mexico City, Derbez starred in the Oscar-winning film CODA (Apple TV+), which won two Academy Awards, including Best Picture, in 2021.
Alongside his producing partner Ben Odell, Derbez co-founded 3Pas Studios, which they have built into a prolific production company focused on US Hispanic and Latin American audiences for both English and Spanish content.
3Pas Studios is behind box-office hits such as Overboard and How to be a Latin Lover, plus streaming successes such as Valet on Hulu and Acapulco on Apple TV+, which recently entered a third season.
His unscripted shows LOL and De Viaje Con Los Derbez are Amazon’s two best-performing shows in Latin America.
Most recently, Derbez starred in and produced Radical, which premiered at Sundance and
won the Audience Favorite award ahead of 110 other features at the festival. The LA Times described his dramatic portrayal as “unsurprisingly winning.”
In 2013, Derbez wrote, produced, starred in and directed Instructions Not Included. Making US$100m on a budget of only US$5m, it became the highest-grossing Spanish-language film ever globally, a record it still holds.
Derbez has produced and starred in his own comedy shows for the past 25 years, with the
highest ratings for a Spanish-language comedy on TV. His shows are still pulling in audiences through reruns in all of Latin America and in the US through Spanish-language network Univision.
With 80 million followers across all platforms, Derbez is considered one of the
most influential people on social media worldwide.
In 2016, he was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The unveiling of his star was reported by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce as having one of the highest turnouts of all time.
He will also receive the Rose d’Or Latinos Lifetime Achievement award during Content Americas.
