TV series Noticia de un Secuestro and El Encargado were respectively crowned best drama and best comedy in Latin America at the inaugural Rose d’Or Latinos, which took place here in Miami on Tuesday night as part of Content Americas.

An adaptation of Gabriel García Márquez’s novel, Noticia de un Secuestro is produced by Chile’s Invercine & Wood for Amazon’s Prime Video and with production services from TIS Productions in Colombia.

El Encargado, meanwhile, was created for Star+ by Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat. One of Disney’s biggest hits in Lat Am, it has already been renewed for a third season.

The voting was carried out by a jury of more than 170 industry execs and chaired by Marcos Santana, CEO of Mas Ros Media.

Amazon took home the most awards last night, with four statuettes. In addition to Noticia de un Secuestro, Prime Video won best film (Argentina, 1985), best reality or factual program (Libre de Reír) and best documentary (Los Sobrevivientes: Colonia Dignidad).

Brazil’s Globoplay won best telenovela for its original Todas las Flores; HBO Max won best children’s/youth series for Te Quiero y Me Duele; and Movistar Plus+ won best short or multiplatform series for Poquita Fe.

Poquita Fe was one of three winners from Spain, which ended up as the most awarded country. Controversial AI-driven dating format Falso Amor (Netflix) claimed best talent or competition programme, while El Hormiguero (Antena 3) was named best comedy or variety entertainment.

Argentina followed with two awards and Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Colombia and Uruguay, which won in best audio for Frente al Asesino from Spotify, all took home one.

In addition to the awards voted by the jury, Argentinian director, producer, musical composer, host and actor Cris Morena received the lifetime achievement award for her invaluable contribution to the entertainment industry. Her credits include Jugate Quiero, Chiquititas, Verano del 98 and Rebelde Way.
