José Ignacio Valenzuela is a prominent Chilean writer with outstanding contributions in film, literature, television, and theater. Recently named by The New York Times’ About.com Magazine as one of Latin America’s Best Ten Writers, his works include over 25 published books, among which the bestsellers Trilogía del Malamor, El filo de tu piel, Mi abuela, la loca and Mi tío Pachunga, stand out. The script for his movie, La sangre iluminada, coauthored with Mexican director Iván Ávila, won recognition at the Sundance Festival in 2001. Miente, another movie he wrote, was selected by Puerto Rico to be its entry to the 2008 Oscars. Amores, a TV series he created and wrote in 2004, was nominated for an Emmy award. In 1999, he won the Grand Jury’s Award in Cannes for his script, Los pioneros del fin del mundo. His telenovelas La casa de al lado and Santa Diabla, both produced by Telemundo, have been broadcast throughout the world, breaking audience records. In 2021, Netflix showed its original series Who Killed Sara?, which became one of the most watched non-English speaking series globally.
