SAG and Emmy award winning actor Derbez was born in Mexico City, Mexico. Derbez starred in the Oscar-winning film CODA (AppleTV+) which won two Academy Awards including Best Picture in 2021. He co-founded 3Pas Studios alongside his producing partner Ben Odell. Together they have built 3Pas Studios into the most commercially successful production company focused on US Hispanic and Latin American audiences for both English and Spanish content. 3Pas Studios is behind box office hits such as Overboard, How to Be a Latin Lover, and streaming hits such as The Valet on Hulu and TV series Acapulco on Apple TV+, now going into its third season. His unscripted shows LOL and De Viaje con los Derbez are Amazon’s two biggest performing shows in Latin America.
Most recently, Derbez starred in and produced Radical, which premiered at Sundance and won the Audience Favourite award, the favourite movie across 111 features at the festival. The LA Times described his dramatic portrayal as “unsurprisingly winning”.
In 2013, Derbez wrote, produced, starred in, and directed Instructions Not Included. Making US$100m on a budget of only US$5m it became the highest grossing Spanish-language film ever globally, a record it still holds.
Derbez has produced and starred in his own comedy shows for the last 25 years, with the highest ratings for a Spanish language comedy on TV. His shows are still pulling in audiences through reruns in all of Latin America and in the US through the Spanish language network, Univision. With 80 million followers across all platforms, Derbez is considered to be one of the most influential people on social media worldwide.
In 2016, Derbez was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It was reported by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce as one of the highest turnouts of all time.
