As the Vice President of Unscripted Production for NBCU Telemundo, Michela Giorelli is responsible for developing new unscripted IPs, work with the network to shape concepts that align with the programming strategy and supervise unscripted projects. Before working with NBC Giorelli was the head of Original Productions for Discovery Latin America/U.S. Hispanic for more than 20 years. During her career at Discovery Giorelli was instrumental in the development and completion of more than eight thousand productions made for the Latin American and US Hispanic markets. Many have been nominated for and received important industry accolades, including the US Emmy award. Giorelli’s most recent work included the development of productions such as the True Crimes series Abdelmassih: From Miracles to Crime, Dossier Chapeco: Behind the Airplane Tragedy, Caravanas, Children at the Border, Latinos on Death Row and long-running series such as Mexicanicos, Naked and Afraid, Dual Survival and the Latin American version of the highly rated lifestyle series such as Celebrity IOU, Next Great Baker, What Not to Wear, While You Were Out and Ten Years Younger.
Prior to her current position, Giorelli was executive producer for all original productions in Discovery Latin America portfolio of networks. In this capacity she led the creation of local versions of acclaimed series such as Wife Swap, Amazing Race, and Rio Ink and specials including Castro: The World’s Most Watched Man, The Colosio Case, São Paulo Under Attack and Malvinas: The Story that Could have Been, among others.
Born in Turin, Italy, Giorelli grew up in Latin America. She moved to the United States to pursue a career in communications at Emerson College in Boston, where she graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree. She received a master’s degree in film production and video from American University in Washington, D.C., and has worked on renowned films such as The Godfather III, Johnny Stecchino and Where Angels Fear to Tread.
